Scholarships

GGFOA offers the following scholarships to members on an annual basis:

  • Jim Pehrson Annual Conference Scholarships (2) – GGFOA offers scholarships for registration and lodging for two (2) members to attend the annual conference. The 2025 conference will be held in Athens, Georgia, from October 12 through October 15, 2025.

    • The application deadline for the Jim Pehrson Annual Conference scholarship is through July 31, 2025.

  • Level I Certified Finance Officer Scholarships (3) – GGFOA offers three (3) scholarships for participants toward the completion of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government’s Level I Local Government Finance Officer Certification Program.

    • The application deadline for the Level l Local Certified Finance Officer Scholarship is through August 31, 2025. 

  • Level II Certified Finance Officer Scholarship (1) – GGFOA offers one (1) scholarship for participants toward the completion of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government’s Level II Local Government Finance Officer Certification Program. 

    • The application deadline for the Level II Local Certified Finance Officer Scholarship is through August 31, 2025.

  • Annual College Scholarship (1) – GGFOA offers one scholarship in an amount not to exceed $1,500 annually to a student who is pursuing studies in public finance or public administration, or a career in government finance.

    • The application deadline for the Annual College Scholarship is through September 1, 2025.

  • Certificate in Public Financial Management (CPFM) Scholarship – GGFOA offers a scholarship to complete one (1) of the three-day executive education courses in public finance offered by the Center for State and Local Finance.

    • Georgia State's Center for State and Local Finance has paused these courses for now. 

  • Public Finance Leadership Academy (PFLA) Scholarships (2) – This scholarship covers tuition for two qualified GGFOA members to attend the six-month cohort program developed by the Carl Vinson Institute of Government and GGFOA. PFLA equips new and emerging public sector financial management leaders with the knowledge they need to successfully manage the fiscal affairs and activities of local government.

    • The application deadline for the PFLA Scholarship is through September 1, 2025

  • GGFOA/GFOA Leadership Academy Scholarship – GGFOA offers an annual scholarship to cover registration, lodging, and travel to the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC, for the week-long Leadership Academy November 16-21, 2025. The training, available to one member, is to enhance leadership and management skills.

    • The application deadline for the GGFOA Leadership Academy Scholarship is through September 12, 2025 

  • Congratulations to 2024 scholarship recipients!

Scholarship Fundraising

Fundraising is essential to maintaining adequate funding levels for GGFOA scholarships. The GGFOA Scholarship/Awards Committee is pleased to announce that the 2024 Annual Scholarship Committee raised $5,000 from raffle tickets sales for GGFOA scholarships and East West Bank donated $3,000 for scholarship. Thank you for your generosity!
