Hello, GGFOA Friends:
I hope you all enjoyed the annual conference and made it home safely from Jekyll.  I am looking forward to serving as your President this year.  As the dynamics of public finance continue to change, your board and committee chairs are working to meet your governmental training and education needs.  I am pleased to announce that our next Wednesday's News You Can Use Session is on the topic of"2015 Transportation Funding Act - Legislative Update."
The session will be held on November 4, 2015, at 10:00 am in the virtual GGFOA Knowledge Center and will be presented by Shaun Adams, the Associate Legislative Director for Economic Development, Transportation and Federal Affairs with ACCG.

Shaun came to ACCG from the Senate Judiciary Committee where he served as Legal Counsel, conducting research and assisting the committee chair with questions regarding proposed legislation. Shaun earned his Juris Doctor from Atlanta's John Marshall Law School in May of 2011 and became a member of the State Bar of Georgia in November 2011.  Shaun was the Legislative Editor of the AJMLS Law Journal and had three legislative summaries published in the Spring 2010 AJMLS Law Journal:  Senate Bill 10:  Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Act; House Bill 251:  Quality Basic Education Act, Intra-district School Choice; and House Bill 927:  Public Schools Disciplinary Tribunals; Bullying; Expand Definition.  Other activities and leadership roles include:  Student Ambassador, Justice of Phi Alpha Delta, and coach of the Negotiations Team.  Shaun graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from Florida State University in 2002.

The one-hour session will provide basic information to ensure that participants are familiar with the 2015 Transportation Investment Act (TIA).  The law provides new options and greater flexibility to help local governments meet their critical transportation needs.
Upon successful completion of the session, the participant should be able to recall the current state of Federal funding, traditional funding of transportation in Georgia, current funding status post HB 170/HB 106, infrastructure financing options, the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank (GTIB), regional TSPLOST changes, and the new single county TSPLOST or TSPLOST2.

Each participant will receive 0.10 CEUs or the equivalent of 1 contact hour for this training.  If you are unable to attend this event you will be able to access the presentation at a later date from an archived library of resources.
Once registration closes, be sure to watch for an email from Gwen Lawrence with the Digital Innovation Group. This group is facilitating the event and will send you details on connecting to your virtual room. You will want to ensure that you test your connection before the date of the event.
We hope to "meet" with you November 4th!
