President's Letter Fall 2019

Greetings GGFOA Members,

I am excited to say that we had another successful conference in Savannah! I am sure you all had a great time learning and exploring the beautiful City of Savannah and its many amenities and attractions. I personally enjoyed the Painting with a Twist class and dining on River Street.

I would like to take this opportunity to show gratitude to everyone who makes GGFOA successful. First and foremost, a BIG thanks to each one of you – the members of GGFOA. Without you, the conference would not be a huge success. I would also like to show appreciation to Linda Cook and the conference committee. Planning for this event is a huge undertaking, and there is a tremendous amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to provide a conference for over 400 people. Thank you for providing us with worthwhile activities and excellent training opportunities! Speaking of training opportunities, I would also like to acknowledge our guest speakers and presenters. They each bring their own expertise to share with our organization. I know we all can use the CPE and/or CEU credits, but the topics shared with us are tailored around our everyday work life and affect us daily. It is imperative that we stay on top of the new GASB standards, the economic forecast to plan our budgets, and the rules and regulations that affect our local governments. These experts willingly share their knowledge to help us stay informed.

I would also like to thank all our exhibitors and sponsors. Along with the free goodies, they also provide products and services that assist our local governments in being productive, efficient, and successful. Finally, I extend a heartfelt thank you to our past president Alisha Gamble, the board, committee chairs, and committee members. This is a thankless job that each of you do, and you do it without hesitation, graciously stepping in when needed. Your volunteerism is most appreciated.

Looking forward, we are excited about GGFOA’s growth potential. Under the direction of our past president, we added our 1st student chapter - the UGA Student Chapter. The chapter held its first meeting this past October, and our very own Alisha Gamble was the speaker. This was a great milestone for GGFOA, and we look forward to our student chapter members becoming our future colleagues in the professional world.

I am so excited about the location of the next conference – which will be held at Chateau Elan for the first time! We are planning this great event now and look forward to having you join us for our 35th Annual Conference on October 4 – October 7, 2020. Save the date!

It is an honor and privilege to serve as your president this year. My goal is that we grow stronger and better together as we continue to foster excellence in governmental finance.

Best regards,
Chiquita Danzy
