President's Letter (Fall 2015)

Posted on

Greetings GGFOA Members:

It is indeed a great honor to serve as President of this organization for the next year.  First I would like to take a second to look back at the great conference held at Jekyll Island in early October.  We continue to break records!  This year we had 319 conference attendee registrations (including 38 new member attendees), 20 sponsorships, and 51 exhibitors.  That’s more new member attendees and more exhibitors than ever before - all helping GGFOA surf the waves of change.  I would like to give a special  thank you to the exhibitors and sponsors who help make the event possible and the speakers within our organization who lend their time, experiences, and knowledge to help better us as a whole.

In the past year our Association has implemented a new website that will allow members to access many new features including a list serve, unique member identification log-on, and the ability to renew memberships online.  We also have reformatted the newsletter to be more appealing and easier to read for our members.  These are just a few of the achievements that we made and we thank you for your continuous support.

In the coming year, the Board and committees will work hard to continue the success and growth of the organization.   We plan to push more information out to the website so that members have access to as many tools as possible to help them meet their needs.  We will also continue to offer free webinars and access to tutorials.  This year we want to put a special emphasis on our scholarship program - we have implemented new ways of raising funds to continue to offer quality scholarship opportunities to our members.  As Past President Virgil Moon said at the conference we are one of the top 10 GFOA organizations in the Country, and this scholarship program is one of the reasons why we are looked at with such admiration.

As always, this organization would not be able to do what we do without the commitment of those who serve as volunteers on the Board and as Committee Chairs.  I would personally like to thank those who have served in the past, those who are serving presently and those who will serve in the future.

I look forward to seeing you all at the Evergreen Marriot in Stone Mountain for the 31st Annual conference October 2 – 5, 2016.
