Center for State and Local Finance Launches Year Two of Executive Education Program

Posted on

ATLANTA The Center for State and Local Finance (CSLF) is launching the second year of its executive education program with a series of six courses tailored for chief financial officers and those who aspire to be chief financial officers, and registration is now open.

The three- and four-day classes focus on the strategic thinking and analytic skills that public finance leaders need to move into the C-Suite. Participants may take individual courses, or complete all six to receive CSLF’s Certificate in Public Financial Management.

CSLF developed its program after extensive feedback from chief financial officers from around the state who emphasized the need for in-depth, high-quality training for those pursuing senior management positions in government. Course dates/topics include:

·        July 14-17, 2015: Operating and capital budgeting

·        Sept. 16-18, 2015: Debt management

·        Nov. 11-13, 2015: Treasury and investment management

·        Jan. 12-15, 2016: Government financial statements and accounting

·        March 16-18, 2016: Retirement, risk management and procurement

·       May 11-13, 2016: Leadership

Five of the six courses are grounded in the content knowledge needed to become a Certified Public Finance Officer through the Government Finance Officers Association. However, classes go beyond basic information and emphasize the analytic and strategic use of this knowledge.

CSLF draws on world-class faculty from the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, which is one of the top-ranked programs in the country in public finance and budgeting. Leading experts from the public and private sector also are invited to teach and guest lecture.

Space is limited, so early registration is advised. As a special bonus, public sector employees receive a 30 percent discount on tuition. CSLF is also registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy as a sponsor of continuing education credits.
